Brett Lee has said that the Australian team will have to improve both their batting as well as bowling if they want to win the upcoming Ashes series which will begin in the second week of July.
The Australian team was defeated by 4-0 in the recently played test series against India.
Brett Lee is in India at the moment to feature for his team Kolkata Knight Riders in the upcoming IPL. He will have to perform a double role for his team this year. Not only is he the main bowler of the team, he is now the bowling mentor of KKR as well.
When Lee was asked about the overall performance of the Australian team in the test series against India, he said, “We were undoubtedly outplayed. Our weak areas got exposed and we need to work on them as soon as possible. The Ashes series is not too far away and if we have to win that, we need to make significant improvements.”
“We need improvements in both batting and bowling. Our batting looks awful against spin and we don’t have too many bowlers to rely upon either. Yes, Peter Siddle was the one who impressed against India, but, barring him, everybody struggled.”
“One good thing for the Australian team is that the conditions in England will be completely different from India. There won’t be spin on the tracks over there.”
When asked about his new role of mentoring the KKR bowlers, Lee said, “It’s really a new thing for me and I am really happy to be helping the young bowlers in the camp. There are some really good fast bowling talents in India and they just need a bit of guidance and exposure. I am trying to help them as much as possible.”

Former Australian fast bowler, Brett Lee, has said that the young fast bowler Patrick Cummins is going to be a superstar in the coming years. He said that Cummins has got a great attitude. He is pretty young, but, he knows a lot of things about fast bowling. Lee said that he was not as talented as Cummins when he was 19 years old. As per Lee, it’s very important for a player to learn from his seniors. And that’s what Cummins does. According to Lee, Cummins asks him a number of questions whenever he meets him.
On being asked about the regular injuries of Pat Cummins, Lee said that for a fast bowler like Pat Cummins, who bowls at a speed of 150 Kph regularly, it is very difficult to be injury free. Lee said that when he was 19, he used to get injured more often than not and he can understand what Cummins’ body is going through. He said that the youngster should not be criticized due to the injuries.
On being asked about his retirement, Lee said that he has been struggling a lot with the injuries and his body was not responding well. So, he decided to retire. The champion fast bowler announced his retirement from the One Day and T20 international cricket on 13th of July. Lee had already announced his retirement from the test match cricket in February 2010.
Lee said that it has been a privilege to serve Australia for 13 years. As per Lee, there were some outstanding moments in his career. But, everything has to end one day. Lee said that he had been thinking about the retirement since the last one week and finally, he told the team mates about his decision. Lee said that he would continue playing in the Indian Premiere League (IPL) and Big Bash League (BBL).
